North West Auctions’ weekly sale of Store Lambs had an entry of 1803. There was a full spectrum of lambs forward selling from £1 to £90 as to be expected at this time of year. The overall market average for lambs was £65.48.

The trade was sharper than expected as many people are cautious with the upcoming uncertainty of Brexit and the current weather. Topping the market today were Texel lambs from WR Clarke & Partners, Yealand Redmayne with other lambs from the same home selling to £89.50. Other Texel lambs sold to £89.50 from ED Robinson, Whinfell followed by £88.50 from W & J Penny, Kirkby in Furness.

With plenty of pens of short keep Continental and Texel lambs easily selling into the 80s. Continental and Texel store lambs that will be ready in February and March often selling either side of the £70 mark, however with long term lambs trade depended very much on the quality of the lambs.

Mule lambs sold to a top of £88 from Miss S Riddle, Ulverston. Other Mule lambs sold to £77 from RI Dixon, Low Newton.

As to be expected there was a large number of hill lambs forward which saw Herdwicks top at £85 from KM Robinson, Old Hutton. Cheviot lambs peaked at £82.50 from Low Moor Howe, Windermere with other Cheviot lambs from the same home to £78.50.

Horned lambs saw Rough Fells sell to £66 from L Potter, Orton with Swaledale lambs selling to £62 from T Jackson, Patterdale.
